Moving forward, Circadian Hues will evolve to offer an even more intuitive and seamless lighting experience. Planned improvements include replacing the wood enclosure with a sleek metal finish for a more refined look, and adding automatic adjustment mechanisms that allow the lamp to extend or retract based on user presence. Gesture recognition and behavior-based interaction are also on the roadmap, aiming to make the lamp smarter and more responsive to individual lifestyles and environments.
This project taught me how to bridge design and technology to solve real human problems. I deepened my understanding of human-centered design, learned to collaborate closely across disciplines, and embraced rapid prototyping to refine both hardware and software. Most importantly, it broadened my perspective on smart product design—showing me how data and connected systems can create more meaningful, empathetic experiences in everyday life.
Circadian Hues reimagines lighting as a responsive companion to human rhythms. Poor indoor lighting often disrupts natural sleep-wake cycles, affecting health and well-being. This project tackles that challenge by designing a smart lamp that dynamically adapts its color temperature and brightness to support healthy circadian patterns.
Using sensors, IoT connectivity, and machine learning, Circadian Hues automatically adjusts to environmental conditions and user behavior. A companion web app enables personalized control—users can customize colors, set sleep/wake schedules, and visualize lighting transitions throughout the day.
Every aspect of the lamp, from its modular wood-and-LED structure to its simple touch controls, is crafted for seamless daily use. When idle, it transforms into ambient lighting, quietly blending into the space.
By bridging design, technology, and wellness, Circadian Hues offers a calming, intuitive lighting experience—one that naturally syncs with life’s rhythms.
